the pony - heaven 7" 1989

here's another one off of my latest picks, an australian band with two albums under its belt from the late eighties. this single, from 'white label records" was the first cut from the oz's new wave outfit's second and final album in 1989. a limited edition single with two songs on the b-side cut together with both grooves run parallel next to each other. pretty neat eh, the only other record i know of that has dual grooves running concurrently is that of the soup dragons' soft as your face 12", if your lucky you'll be able to hear both songs with ease(it took me a several tries when burning it).

wise guise - i guess someone up there don't like me 12" 1984

ok here's a record from wise guise, a short-lived outfit from the uk. it comes in a single regular paper sleeve exactly like the one above, priced at $1 in the bargain section. as the plumbers' would say "your shit is our bread and butter". this record is out on strike records who mainly focuses on but not limited to indie and ska. catchy tune with a pretty good vibe and an early eighties groove ala captain sensible or malcolm mclaren, definitely leftfield.
sad news bloggers.... older posts (some ,not all) will have links deleted due to some infringements copyright complaints by the dcma and its proprietors.
so i really have to watch what i post nowadays, don't want to violate any laws or worse...charged and pay a hefty fine, no sir!

variance - lovelies 7" 1991

so on my latest trip to the record store, i got me several 45s and a couple of experimental lps which will prolly end up on discogs or musicstack. but it never entered my mind that this single would somewhat be available here locally. i guess los angeles truly is the mecca of record collectors/sellers, memorabilias, etc. besides having hipsters at every corner cafe, not just in hollywood and silverlake anymore, they are everywhere!
this trio, a finnish band with one full length album(the butterfly effect, 1993) and this single on strawberry records born in the early nineties, a bit new orderish meet cetu javu... great for synth pop lovers!

the painted word - lovelife cd5 1988

this 4-track cd was released in germany as a promotional item for the band's upcoming full-length album "lovelife" in 1989 on bmg, rca records. pretty neat looking little thing that's housed in a colourful tri-fold cardboard case... contains two of the best songs from the album, yeeuh! a little bit funky and a little groovy, (the eighties way) that's the genius of alan mccusker-thompson whose second release "universal"came just six years later, which i think was a step back.

that's the reason i'm alive...

top - buzzin 7' 1991

british indie outfit born to paul cavanagh with two legendary musicians in joseph fearon, bass(bringing home the ashes album) and alan wills, drums(circa revolutionary spirit, peel sessions era) both from the incomparable "wild swans" or "the wild swans".
possibly the third single from the band's debut album in 1991, real dreamy yet upbeat track, its got a little bit of that manchester flavor to it, no offense to any liverpudlians out there.

botany five - nature boy 7" 1991

last track off the only album this threesome ever released, nature boy is somehow.. with its 90s houselike rhythm influences, this synth-driven song could very well describe one certain musical pop-based genre from the nineties as it gradually developed into what is now a more fast and edgy dance beat aka progressive house. songwriter gordon kerr, jason robertson and steven christie better known as botany 5 released all of their other singles thru virgin records from 1990-'91 before disappearing in the airwaves completely.

working for a nuclear free city - s//t 2006

so much to write about this uk underground four-some from manchester... and you wonder why they sound so freaking funky melodic. like many great bands from the groove city, their tunes are a cross between , or a mixture of  ian brown's solo project and manchester's indie rocker "doves". i am sure that's not what the quartet intended to do.. or was it?? four lads trying to make music the way they wanted to, led and produced  by a guy named dekko with ed hulme, gary mcclure, jon and philip kay... wait that's more than four members. hmm.. anyway, this was the band's debut album, released under melodic record label. they went on and released two more albums after this, one in '07 and another in '10. they definitely get a thumbs up from me, what say you?? randy, uder?!!

in heaven - aquanova e.p. 1992

so you think you've heard it all! seen it all before, been there, done that... well, might as well call me a rookie. as my latest pick up just proved that, released in 1992.. shoegaze scene was at its peak, quietly amongst other popular scenes, i.e. britpop, madchester, house and grunge  here in the u.s. for me this single is up there with the rest of the top sounding noisepop/experimental outfit (as other freshies might address them) of the nineties. from meller welle produkte same label that brought us balloon farm, dan dare, lovelies and a few more. three-track 7" single ripped using the free audacity sw, but did no enhancement to it so we can experience the rawness as it was meant to be.

noname - fashion 12" 1989

sole single from the this trio who i think were from germany(not to be confused with the italian techno/dance duo of the same name). later founded the electronic synth act dark distance spaces. "fashion", a single released thru zyx records.. not an easy thing to find and when you do it's usually pricey but not unusual to this kind of music, listen on and you'll see what i mean. i hear cetu javu vocals cross with perhaps secession's programmings.

ecstasy of saint theresa - susurrate cd 1992

czech indie band with one very mbv-like album in 1992 and an ep in '91 that's very reminiscent to the sound of "the charlottes", any way you look at it... it's absolute shoegaze. but eost sound was never the same after this release(thanx to clairerecords for re-releasing this album in 1999, 2000).

propaganda - duel 2x7" 1985

the band's sophomore single released in 1985, a shorter version of the song previously unavailable elsewhere but on this double seven(until the 2002 comp., outside world, ztt records) which includes two very harmoniously crafted synthpop b-sides. the german quartet from dusseldorf also just released 'the best of' cd, a must-have compilation in 2013 on metro select and ztt records.
the roofy leak?? only because i've learned that "indiefference" does not really scream unnoticed anymore, will explain later.

the word - schoolboy saint 7" 1985

a trio from northern england, released three singles thru three different labels. this one in particular was on london's own abstract dance whose releases were limited to only very few bands. schoolboy saint was produced by tim parry(blue zoo, modern jazz) in 1985, a very melodic and calming tune. one other great single from the band i would like to get a copy of is their very first single off of menace music(don't mind the label name), "colour it!" from 1983.

air formation - stay inside/feel everything cd 2004

such beautiful music from uk's air formation, there are no b-sides here. just layers upon layers of thick wall of guitar feedbacks that really get into yer mind! could easily be one of my top favorite cds of the new millennium. released on clairerecords, gainesville's modern shoegaze indie record label in florida. this cd is a trip and should absolutely speaks for itself, prove me wrong otherwise.
have a great superbowl weekend y'all, don't drink and drive, play it loud and listen proud!

hushdrops - radio 1990 7"

a u.s. indiepop band from chicago, il with sixties pyschedelia influence like no other i have heard before, dunno if it's a good or a bad thing, really. i believe "radio 1990" was the band's sole single on sunshine sheen records, a bit scarce i should add. don't really know when this particular record came out.. like the single itself, nowhere on the record nor the cover states the release year. but, hushdrops had an album called "volume one" circa 2004 so we know it's not from the nineties. so anyway i was streaming their album on last.fm and there were a few tracks that stands out from the aforementioned album, and emily was definitely a pleaser!
pls. support your local indie band, "volume one" mp3 and its entirety are still available for digital download at amazonmp3.

intastella - century cd5 1991

3rd single off the 1991 debut album "intastella and the family of people" on mca records, the band was active from the beginning of the nineties to about '97. inspired by the madchester scene, the quintet's musical forte consists of postbaggy-psychedelic-soul-funk-rock. led by vocalist stella grundy plus three members of the c86 group "laugh", martin wright, spencer birtwistle and martin mittler with rug-cutting bez, i mean lil' anthony in charge of shaking a leg!!
