moev - cracked mirror 12" 1981

first ever release from these vancouver-based synthpop group which then were originally comprised of founders tom ferris and cal stephenson joined by madeleine morris on vocals and mark jowett on guitars. all four take credits and responsibilities of this release along with producer jack curry. you can tell the band really put full effort to this well-engineered synthpop tune, distributed exclusively in canada this very limited edition single... as authentic as it sounds neither the jacket nor the vinyl comes with a catalog no.

candyhateful - hate cd5 1993

fronted by christian hejnal also known for his occasional appearances on the la based outfit "scarling" a goth-noise band, candyhateful was founded in the city of angels in the early nineties with lots of guitar similarities to mbv and the marychains' riffs. later on to play bass for 'the drummed' and scarling in the mid 2000s which acts could be seen supporting the shoegaze bands such as the uk's amusement parks on fire and david gedge's the wedding present in 2006 and even opening for one of the godfathers of synth, depeche mode(everything.explained.at). i don't know how many of these were produced but i'm guessing not many because i haven't seen one since i got this back in '93.

individual fruit pie - comfort and discomfort 7" 1997

ifp... a band from neuva york, was a short-lived band comprised of j.c. on vocals, gary thomas on strings, san fadyl on drums and chris wilson on bass. the band was formed circa 1995 by two brit guys from london which happens to sound very familiar. for those of us who yearns for jangly guitar and dark croon almost as if they're singing to a special type of crowd. the band released a full length cd on no.6 records of new york in 1997, an ep called "release me" on dot dot dash(..-) records in 1995 and lastly but not in this order, this single.

jupiter sun - s/t ep 1994

first release from the suns of jupiter in 1994, a jangly independent act from san jose,ca., shoegaze but not dated, these quartet formerly of "silver" were cali-locals. this very hard-to-find single sided colored 12" vinyl on "i wish i was a slumberland record label, a sub-label of slumberland record, that has quite a line up of their own like the aislers set, henry's dress, go sailor and much more is limited to only 500 copies made. which can only mean that there are only very few of these out there avialable. unless some worn out converted collector decided to give up part of their teenage memories and started listening to crappy mainstream music! no harm intended.
the band's one and only album was released on a cd format by parasol records in 1995 and again in 1999 which can be found on the labels own site and other music shops on the net such as amazon et'al.

stereolab - john cage bubblegum 7" 1993

it's hard to believe it's been twenty years since london's stereolab gave birth to their own version of lo-fi electronica/indie/experimental rock in 1992. so many things have said and prolly thousands of reviews all over the world whether be it on fanzines or the internet so i am not even gonna try.
this single was the only release they have from  oakland's very own slumberland records of the united states of america, very sixties mod-ish electronica. kinda entailing moneywise to find, one of the many early sterolab releases are anyway. ok 'nough said i will let the music speak for itself.

random single of the month

slgtm is a michigan based outfit that emerged in the early millennium, fronted by songwriter fred thomas of ann arbor. the band had several albums released independently from and thru the very late 2000s with a bunch of limited 7"s on various indie labels. listening to this album and some other cds by them reminds me of many different styles of music melted into one genre, you hear a little bit of soul, britpop, mod and 60's rock with a hint of japanese pop in the mix. you can read more about the slgtm here.
to our new readers, random single of the month pays tribute to great songs that could've been, should've been and would've been  a porky prime cut but was never. ultimate stars(sample song is for listening purposes only, pls. support the artist by buying their materials wherever available) was taken from the 2003 album "all your summer songs" on illinois' polyvinyl record co., enjoy.
