the field trip - falling down again ep 1991

here's one shoegaze psychedelic act i was not aware of, a quintet from england whom all three of their singles came out in the early nineties, all on ironbridge shropshire's very own watercolour label. what they brought to the table was something very familiar to my ears, a mixture of rugby's the darkside and early spiritualized materials. that being said, one of the field trip's single was mixed and produced by sonic boom the man behind spacemen 3 alongside j. spaceman..., the godfathers of shoegaze next to my all time favorite "the jesus and mary chain".

falling down again...

can you see what you speak...

None of the bands you mention (JAMC, Spiritualized, The Darkside, or Spacemen 3) were shoegazing bands. Shoegazing was a term that originated in (probably) the NME, as a joke, in about 1989, to describe bands like Slowdive, Chapterhouse and early Catherine Wheel. who hid behind long fringes while staring at their often-used effects pedals. The above bands may well have influenced them, but no-one who saw a JAMC or Spacemen 3 gig in the 80's could have accused them of 'shoe-gazing', and they pre-dated that scene by several years.

dj... no disrespect to you but you are not telling us something that we don't already know, somehow we try to separate such bands from the mainsteam, because believe you me, you don't want to address them as pop artists, they're certainly not or chose not to be in the same catergory as yer madonnas or lady gagas... but thanx for stopping by, hope you had fun!
